So you applied to attend university in the U.S., and after many tense weeks, the long awaited letter has arrived. You have been accepted! You feel so excited, and want to get your visa and go the United States to begin the next stage in your life right away! But before you start preparing, you should know that there are limits to when you can start the process.
By law, a student visa can only be issued 120 days or less before the start date on the I-20 Form provided by your school. For instance, if the start date is July 9, 2013, the earliest you can get your visa is March 11, 2013. Likewise, you can only use your F visa to enter the United States a maximum of 30 days before the beginning of studies (applicants continuing previous F-1 study are not subject to this restriction). So just be patient, prepare carefully, and enjoy the time you have left with your family and friends before you begin your study abroad adventure!
대학교 가을학기 시작전에 학생비자를 신청할 수 있는 가장 빠른 시기는 언제입니까?
귀하가 미국의 대학 입학 신청을 하고 여러날을 긴장된 마음으로 기다리다가 드디어 기다리던 편지가 도착했고 결과는 합격입니다! 귀하는 굉장히 흥분되어 곧바로 비자를 받아, 인생의 다음 단계를 시작하기 위해 당장 미국에 가기를 원할것입니다. 그러나 미국 유학을 준비하기전에 몇가지 제약이 있다는 것을 아셔야 합니다.
이민법에 의하면, 학교가 발급한 I-20 (입학허가서) 상에 기재된 학교 시작일이 120일 미만 남은 경우에만 학생비자 발급이 가능합니다. 예를 들어 학교 시작일이 2013년 7월 9일이라면 가장 빨리 학생 비자를 발급할수 있는 날은 2013년3월 11일이므로 비자신청은 3월 11일 또는 그 이후에 하셔야 합니다. 또한 학생비자로 처음 미국 입국시 학교 시작일로 부터 30일 이전에만 가능합니다. 학생비자 신청시 인내심을 가지고 준비하시기 바라며 해외에서의 공부를 시작하기전 남은 시간을 가족 그리고 친구들과 함께 좋은 추억을 만드시기 바랍니다.

주한 미국 대사관의 비이민 비자과에서는 학생들, 선생님들, 그리고 학생 부모님들 또는 미국 유학에 관심있으신 분들을 대상으로 비자 신청 과정을 정확하게 이해하고자 하는 취지의 일환으로, 비자 설명회를 갖고자 합니다. 또한 미국 유학 생활에 도움이 될 수 있는 미국 문화의 다양한 측면들에 대해서도 일반적인 정보를 드리고자 합니다.

Starting December 20, 2012, applicants for immigrant visas (IVs) and nonimmigrant visas (NIVs) can view the status of their visa cases through the Consular Electronic Application Center (CEAC) by entering their CEAC Barcode and the interview location for nonimmigrant visa cases and the case number for immigrant visa cases.
2012년 12월 20일 부터 비이민비자는 온라인 비자 신청서 (DS-160)상의 바코드 번호와 비자를 신청한 지역명, 이민비자는 비자케이스 번호를 이용하여 영사과 전자신청서 센터 Consular Electronic Application Center (CEAC)에서 진행사항을 확인 할 수 있습니다.
